Two of our closest friends are Ronnie and Helen Young. We met the Youngs when we moved to our current home in Beavercreek in 2021. They had just moved in across the street a few months before our home was finishing being built. While I was looking at our home construction progress Ronnie wandered across the street and introduced himself. Little did we know how much the four of us would have in common or that two decades later we would be up in Toronto for a quick weekend getaway. Ronnie is a very good musician having played drums and sang in many bands since his school days all the way up to a year or so ago. We all grew up and listed to the same bands so we have the same musical tastes – good classic rock and roll music. We have enjoyed seeing a number of concerts together over the years. At the end of 2023 we were out to dinner and realized that Def Leppard, Journey, and Heart were touring in 2024 and that they happened to be playing up in Toronto. Since Michelle and I enjoyed our Toronto trip two years ago I suggested we make a trip out of it.

Below is one of the classic 1983 Pyromania album era Def Leppard posters. This is the album that made them a household name in the United States in 1983. I was hooked when first seeing the Photograph video that year and somehow convinced my parents to let me go see them at Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio on July 5th, 1983. So here we are 41 years later seeing them again. As I type this I really cannot believe it has been 4 decades! Time truly does move too fast but that is also the reason it is important to get out and do trips like this. Whether it be myself or the band, there may not be too many more shows like this left!

First stop on our way was to introduce Ronnie and Helen to one of our favorite coffee shops – The Fox in the Snow.

The other reason for heading up to Toronto was make a stop at Niagara Falls on our way. I had been there as a child on a family vacation so it was time to see this magnificent natural wonder again. I was happy that we stopped and I enjoyed the views and our quick lunch before continuing on to Toronto.Â
The Show
I have seen Def Leppard many times over the years and they really have never disappointed. This was a fun show because the played a couple of deeper cuts off the Pyromania album that are usually not played. Journey also have hit after hit and had a great set also. Cheap Trick ended up opening the show in place of Heart. I really like Cheap Trick and enjoyed seeing them as well.
The show was at the Toronto Skydome and the place was pretty much sold out. Great to see that many fans still out and enjoying these bands.
See this page for more details on the show.
