The mansions in Newport, Rhode Island are well worth the visit. There is a lot of history to take in along with the jaw dropping mansions themselves.
The most well known of the mansions is “The Breakers” which was built between Cornelius Vanderbilt II between 1893-1895. He was one of the richest men in the world at the time. These magnificent mansions were the “summer cottages” of these wealthy industrialists of the Gilded age. They would travel up to Newport from where they lived and worked in New York City. The Breakers has 70 rooms of which 48 are bedrooms for the staff and family members. Others we toured included The Marble House and The Elms.
I highly recommend spending a day exploring the city of Newport and touring the mansions.
