This was our only “Day Trip” from Paris. We awoke early and caught the train that takes you to Versailles which is to the Southwest of the city. Not sure where to start when describing this palace. It is enormous and that is an understatement (I read the palace has approx. 721,206 square feet 😲). Earlier in the trip while in Berlin we visited another palace which was very impressive but it doesn’t compare to Versailles. I have read that one of its nicknames is “The Palace of Palaces”. You can read about the history of Versailles all over the internet if you are interested.
Built initially as a Hunting Lodge in 1623 and then it was expanded by King Louis XIV to a chateau and finally to a palace between 1661 to 1715.
Definitely recommend seeing it but also recommend pre buying your tickets and getting there early to beat the crowds. For me it is a place I am happy I saw and I enjoyed. But as I think about it I know I did not see all of it – it was so large. The outdoor gardens are also enormous. You could easily wander through the various gardens for hours if you like.
